A Tarot Classic!
Aleister Crowley, Lady Frieda Harris’ Tarot project was the Thoth Tarot deck. This deck is a 78 card, full color deck, perfect for those who are fans of Aleister Crowley’s work, or those who are experienced with Tarot who are looking to expand their knowledge and experience of Tarot reading. This is the large (3.75 x 5.5) format.
These cards are suited for not just reading material situations, but for a deeper purpose of ritual and meditative work. I enjoy using this deck for personal rituals, where I use the Invocation of the Holy Guardian Angel from the Book of Thoth, and then draw one card to be used for meditation on spiritual matters
The Thoth Tarot was painted by Lady Frieda Harris under instruction from Aleister Crowley. Crowley named this deck the Book of Thoth and included an instructional book by the same name. The creation of the deck spanned 5 years between the research and re-working of the deck and it’s beautiful imagery gathered from his personal experiences in the occult.
Of course, the deck comes with it’s own ‘little white book’ that helps you to understand the cards.
The companion book, “The Book of Thoth: A Short Essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians, Being the Equinox Volume III No. V” written by Crowley, is the deck’s companion book and should be referred to in order to understand the meanings.
But, this deck was best interpreted by Lon Milo DuQuette, in his book, Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot, providing updated information and clarity to those that want to understand this deck to it’s fullest. While Crowley was in a class of his own among other occultists, DuQuette in his own wisdom provides a clear and concise interpretation of this deck that will offer you so much more than just the Thoth book alone. This classic deck is a wonderful addition for any serious student of the Occult.
